This is the first of the three regional campaign launches lined up over the next four days with Ngabu in Chikwawa and Mangochi Boma as next destinations.
Just four days after an emphatic official launch of the Malawi Congress Party manifesto and campaign in Lilongwe, President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera invaded the Northern Region with another spectacular regional launch at Inkosi M'mbelwa Stadium in Mzimba.
Just as was the case in Lilongwe, thousands of MCP supporters and Chakwera admirers thronged to the under-construction stadium to hear first-hand the President's development intention for Malawi in his second term of office after the September 16 elections.
In his remarks, President Chakwera thanked people of the Northern Region for making him President in 2020 with over 500,000 votes from all the six districts.
Under special mention was completion of the state-of-the-art Mzuzu University Library, full operationalisation of the Mzuzu International Airport and construction of the Orton Chirwa International Airport, construction of modern roads with a clover interchange in Mzuzu.
He went on to outline his development agenda for Malawi in his second term which hinges on five thematic areas namely; Food Security: Make Malawi Feed Malawi, Create Jobs 4 All - Jobs 4 Life, Wealth Creation: Multiplying Zikhwaya, Governance Reform: Rebooting the System and Public Service Delivery: Chakwera Masterplan.
Included in his agenda for the North are more mega farms, more National Economic Empowerment Fund loans, establishing more manufacturing companies and construction of more key infrastructure across all key sectors of the economy.
Under special mention was completion of the state-of-the-art Mzuzu University Library, full operationalisation of the Mzuzu International Airport and construction of the Orton Chirwa International Airport, construction of modern roads with a clover interchange in Mzuzu.
Next on the MCP Presidential candidate's schedule is a similar tour to Ngabu in Chikwawa this coming Friday for the Southern Region campaign launch.
