President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera held talks with business magnate Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group. The two explored right and timely avenues for the investment group to venture into the Malawi economy as soon as possible
One of Africa’s most influential investors, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, says he is geared to explore investment opportunities in Malawi as he continues expanding his business empire into latent markets.
The Nigerian billionaire said this on Friday June 26 when he met Malawi President, His Excellency Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, on the sidelines of ongoing Annual Meetings of the Afrexim Bank in Abuja, Nigeria.
Dangote is President of a huge conglomerate known as Dangote Group which has business interests in cement, sugar, telecommunications, oil and gas among other sectors.
President Chakwera shared with Dangote an overview of Malawi’s economy and singled out opportunities for investment in Agriculture, Tourism, Mining plus Manufacturing. These are the sectors his administration has prioritised to expedite economic growth through job and wealth creation.
Dangote expressed gratitude to President Chakwera for the opportunity to meet as well as the invitation to explore investment opportunities in Malawi.
The business magnate said that for Africa to attract more foreign direct investments, other African entrepreneurs should take the lead to invest in other African countries.

To this end, Dangote designated the Vice President of Dangote Industries Ltd, Mr Olakunhle Alake as the point of contact to work with the Malawi team to explore areas of investment in mining, manufacturing, especially cement, and other areas.
Dangote also accepted the President’s invitation to visit Malawi soon.
