Malawi and the Tony Emulemu Foundation have set mutual development goals to empower Malawian young entrepreneurs through seed capital and mentorship
His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera on Thursday June 26, 2025 met one of Africa’s renowned investors and philanthropists, Anthony Onyemaechi Elumelu, in a discussion that centred on uplifting livelihoods of Malawian youths through capitalization of start-ups and mentorship.
The meeting took place on the eve of the 32nd Annual Meetings of the African Export-Import Bank (Afrexim Bank) in Abuja, Nigeria.
Emulemu, a Nigerian national, has for decades invested his time and resources in empowering a new generation of young entrepreneurs on the continent through his Tony Elumelu Foundation plus his other business ventures such as Heris Holdings, Transcorp and United Bank of Africa.
President Chakwera expressed delight at how the interface explored a roadmap to guide a new working partnership between the Foundation and his administration.
“We have agreed to set a clear roadmap on how we establish linkages with the Ministry of Youth to facilitate a program to provide a $5000 seed capital to thousands of our youth. Under this framework, the Foundation will train and mentor our young people to maximize their impact on national development,” President Chakwera wrote on his official Facebook profile after the fruitful meeting.
