President Chakwera recognizes the transformative potential of digital technologies in fostering socio-economic development. To harness this potential, the President’s administration championed the introduction of the National Digitalization Policy (2023–2028), succeeding the National ICT Policy of 2013.
The Policy was officially launched in January 2024. It was developed through a consultative process involving various stakeholders, including government ministries, development partners, academia, private sector institutions, and civil society organizations.

This policy has synchronized digital initiatives with Malawi's national development targets, ensuring that digitalization efforts contribute effectively to socio-economic growth.
It has improved the Public-Private Synergy: Enhancing collaboration between the public and private sectors is crucial for the holistic development of the ICT sector.
It has addressed policy incoherencies that have characterised the landscape in terms of ICT infrastructure, digital literacy, and access, particularly in underserved communities.
