Opportunities to unlock
Enactment of the Older Persons’ Bill in April 2024, establishing a legal framework for the protection and support of the elderly, including provisions for community-based and home-based care, as well as monthly financial stipends.
Formation of a National Steering Committee on Older Persons to oversee the implementation and enforcement of the bill, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Ratification of the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Older Persons in Africa, reinforcing Malawi's commitment to upholding the rights of the elderly at both national and regional levels.
