To boost agricultural efficiency, the Chakwera-led government has promoted mechanization and modern farming techniques as a reliable intervention for a complete turnaround of the sector.
The promise to end hunger and improve agricultural productivity through mechanization is taking steady progress with implementation of initiatives such as the Malawi Agricultural Mechanization Initiative.
This milestone initiative grants mega farmers access to modern farming equipment to help them increase profitability in respective commercial ventures.
Problems to be solved
Mechanization has increased productivity, particularly in large-scale commercial farms
Reduced reliance on manual labor and old farming techniques and technologies
Improved yields across all food and cash crops.
Opportunities to unlock
Initial 134 tractors made available to farmers under the Malawi Agricultural Mechanization Initiative.
Procuring and distributing over 20 Massey Ferguson and Case tractors to farmer cooperatives.
Encouraging the use of modern farm equipment to reduce labor-intensive traditional farming methods.
