Since assuming office in 2020, the Chakwera administration has prioritized fostering national unity and civic engagement as foundational pillars for Malawi's democratic and developmental progress. Recognizing the country's diverse cultural and political landscape, the administration has been implementing deliberate initiatives aimed at promoting inclusivity, peace, and collective national identity.

In 2020, President Lazarus Chakwera appointed Timothy Mtambo as the Minister of Civic Education and National Unity, marking a significant step in institutionalizing efforts toward national cohesion. Mtambo, a former human rights activist, brought a wealth of experience in advocacy and public engagement to the role.

The administration has also established the National Peace and Unity Commission, tasked with promoting reconciliation and unity across the nation. President Chakwera has consistently engaged with this commission, reaffirming his commitment to a peaceful and unified Malawi.

The President has used every opportunity to emphasize the importance of unity, especially during challenging times. To this end, he has demonstrated tolerance by staying away from verbal attacks either on the podium or privately.
