The Chakwera administration has emphasized the importance of social protection mechanisms, particularly cash transfer programs, as a means to alleviate poverty and enhance the livelihoods of vulnerable populations. These initiatives aim to provide financial support to ultra-poor and labor-constrained households, thereby promoting human capital development and resilience.
The MCP's commitment to social welfare is evident through its support and expansion of programs like the Social Cash Transfer Programme (SCTP), also known as Mtukula Pakhomo, which provides regular, unconditional cash transfers to the most vulnerable households across all 28 districts in Malawi. Additionally, the introduction of the Urban Social Cash Transfer Programme targets ultra-poor households in urban areas, addressing the unique challenges faced by the urban poor.
