His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi, on Monday, received letters of credence from two envoys accredited to Malawi on a residential basis at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.
The two envoys are Mrs. Anne Sofie Bjelland, Ambassador Designate of the Kingdom of Norway, and Mr. Amararam Gujar, High Commissioner Designate of the Republic of India.

In his remarks, President Chakwera reaffirmed Malawi’s commitment to deepening cooperation with both Norway and India, emphasizing that strong bilateral ties remain a cornerstone of his administration’s development agenda.
Speaking to the media after the ceremony, Mr. Amararam Gujar highlighted the long-standing friendship between India and Malawi, recalling that India was among the first nations to recognize Malawi’s independence in 1964. He stressed India’s readiness to explore greater collaboration in agriculture, food processing, mining, and tourism, noting Malawi’s immense potential in these areas.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Patricia Kainga Nangozo, described the accreditation of the two envoys as a privilege and an opportunity to cement ties in governance, agriculture, and health.
Since assuming office in 2020, President Chakwera has consistently prioritized building strategic bilateral partnerships to advance Malawi’s interests, strengthen mutual understanding, and unlock new opportunities for collaboration that will benefit Malawians for generations to come.
