His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera says his second term plan has earmarked to uplift infrastructure of the country's capital city, Lilongwe, into a modern metropolis that fully supports the aspirations of households, businesses, development stakeholders and international community alike.

He said this during rolling campaign meetings he held for the better part of Saturday.

The President expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming trust and reminded the people that the votes they cast in 2020 have already unlocked major developments that are reshaping the capital city.

Some of the notable projects the administration has undertaken in Lilongwe include the six-lane Chilima Highway, four-lane Crossroads to Kanengo carriageway, new Lilongwe Bridge and a number of township roads some of which were poorly constructed by the previous administration.

Also constructed since 2020 is a host of key public infrastructure such as the Griffin Saenda Indoor Sports Complex, staff houses for security agencies, the National Cancer Centre among others.

Besides brick and mortar projects, Lilongwe City residents have also benefitted from other programmes including free water connections, electricity connections at reasonable cost, loans under the National Economic Empowerment Fund and cash transfer initiatives popularly known as Mtukula Pakhomo.

In his address to multitudes that welcomed him on his campaign route, President Chakwera reiterated that the Malawi Congress Party is a party for all Malawians, committed to peace and unity during this campaign period.

He cautioned citizens against responding to provocations from the opposition, urging instead that focus remain on building lasting change.

Highlighting progress and future plans, the President emphasized the ongoing work to continue constructing more modern infrastructure and increasing uptake of NEEF loans by restructing it to a bank so that it serves more people, better.

“We want to build wealth in this country, through deliberate investment in farming, businesses, and modern infrastructure. My goal is not to argue with anyone but to keep developing this country for every Malawian,” President Chakwera said.

As the September 16 elections approach, he encouraged all Malawians to come out and vote in large numbers, underscoring that every vote is a voice for peace, progress, and the future of the nation.
