As part of his campaign engagements across the country, President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, visited communities in Ntchisi and Kasungu Districts on Tuesday and Wednesday where he reaffirmed his commitment to delivering development that responds directly to the needs of local people.

Across both districts, the President urged communities to embrace new farming technologies pledging his administration’s full support to ensure desirable outcomes from the mainstay trade for a majority of citizens.

He cited the potential of Bua River to sustain year-round food production and strengthen food security. He also highlighted government investments in police houses and subsidised fertiliser, noting that such initiatives are already improving livelihoods.

Of similar characteristic in both Ntchisi and Kasungu were thousands of ecstatic supporters who welcomed President Chakwera in a manner no leader in modern times has ever been.

“Your votes in 2020 were like seeds planted. Together we have watered them, and now the fruits are becoming clear through visible projects,” he told the crowds on both days.

The President restated his commitment to constructing state-of-the-art infrastructure such as roads and dams, designed to withstand the test of time and climate change. He emphasized that Kasungu, as the country’s agricultural hub, will benefit from investments in irrigation, fertiliser factories, and mining as new revenue streams for development.

“Together, we must continue to protect the progress we have started—fixing the Malomo–Ntchisi–Dzaleka road, expanding electricity access, and promoting farming and small business growth. With peace and unity, we will build a Malawi that works for everyone,” the President said.

The Malawi leader also promised to connect Ntchisi and its neighbouring district of Nkhotakota through a modern road network that will boost trade and open new economic opportunities for all people.

The President also reminded communities of his administration’s decision to increase the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) from K220 million to K500 million, a move that will accelerate grassroots projects.

Chakwera further explained that while global inflation has driven up commodity prices, deliberate sabotage by middlemen has also played a role. He emphasized that his choice of Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba as running mate reflects his commitment to empowering youth while also countering corrupt practices that undermine development.

The climax of his historic tour to Kasungu was when he spent a night at Nguru ya Nawambe, once an official residence for the nation’s father and founder Ngwazi Dr Hastings Kamuzu Banda. No any other Malawi leader since Kamuzu himself has spent a night at this plush residence perched in the remote location of Kasungu.
