Karonga Water Supply Project

23 July 2025

The border district of Karonga remains a significant trade route for Malawi because it facilitates logistics around some of the country’s key imports such as petroleum products, automobiles, fertilizers and textile among others.
One basic amenity this bustling town lacked before 2020 is potable water to which the Chakwera administration has responded positively.
The Karonga Town Water Supply Project has brought potable water to over 185, 157 residents at the boma and surrounding areas. The project aligns with the promotion on adoption of safe water sanitation practices at the individual and household level in line with Sustainable Development Goal #6.
