Monkey Bay - Cape MacLear Road

The 18-kilometer road, whose construction commenced in 2021, is one of the key infrastructure development projects initiated by my administration in the lakeshore district of Mangochi.

The Monkey Bay – Cape Maclear carriageway which will improve access to one of the country’s most beautiful tourist destinations, Cape Maclear. In addition, the road will be a viable trade route for businesses in the area to other parts of the country.

The route traverses the Lake Malawi National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its biodiversity and tourism appeal.

 

Economic and Social Impact

Enhance Tourism:

By providing better access to Cape MacLear, a popular tourist destination, the road is anticipated to boost tourism-related activities.

Facilitate Trade:

Improved transportation infrastructure will aid local fishermen and farmers in transporting their products to broader markets.

Improve Accessibility:

The road will ease mobility for residents, improving access to essential services and opportunities.
