The border district of Mwanza has lagged behind in terms of befitting infrastructure meant to spur socioeconomic growth across a number of key sectors.
When President Chakwera came into office he committed to transform the fortunes of this important transit hub to make it an investment destination for both local and foreign investors.
One key infrastructure the administration has initiated is the 8,000-seater Mwanza Stadium whose construction commenced in 2024.
The stadium is part of Malawi's decentralization program, designed to empower local authorities through enhanced revenue collection and infrastructure development. It is expected to serve as a modern venue for sports and community events, thereby boosting local revenue and creating opportunities for small businesses during such activities. Local leaders have praised the project for transforming the district's landscape and improving livelihoods.
The Mwanza Stadium project exemplifies the Chakwera administration's commitment to infrastructure development and community empowerment in all corners of Malawi.
