As way of improving service delivery in Thyolo District, Government of Malawi in 2017 started constructing a new council office complex to replace an old structure dated as back as 1900.
When President took office in 2020 the project had stalled and people of Thyolo had doubts if there was going to be any progress in the foreseeable future. At the time, the project’s completion rate was below 30 percent.
Four years down the line, construction works had advanced satisfactorily contrary to earlier fears.
The four-storey building is designed to house all government sectors, including the Immigration Department, enabling citizens to acquire passports locally
It has been purposed to centralize government services, enhance efficiency, and promote transparency and accountability in service delivery.
The local community has welcomed the project, viewing it as a significant development milestone that will improve access to government services and symbolize progress in the region.
